The Friar's Delight, Theobald's Road. They used to use beef dripping -maybe they still do - and the cabbies used to park up, which is always a good sign.
I went to university in Leeds and had three first rate chip shops near my house. Never had anything remotely as good in London, even the highly recommended places. Fresh fish, beef dripping and expertise.

Yes, a classic, and still going.

Yes, definitely not at its best in London. Champagne does help though.
